Back to Updates

by Ian on Sep.01, 2010, under Projects, Rants, Sticky Situation

Well! Back to school means back to work! I have about 10 weeks left to finish the biggest project of all time!!!

Ok, so it isn’t quite that big… It is big enough though. Unfortunately I can’t really share a video of the game itself, so instead I’ll share an older engine test video with you guys:

In case you can’t tell, the pink box is a button. It is pretty much triggered whenever it overlaps with a non-static object. Pretty cool, huh?

Hopefully I can show you guys something more relevant in the next update. Back to work!

Musings on a Comic

by Ian on Jun.01, 2009, under Comics

I promise I just liked the way the title sounded, I am not going to be anywhere near that pretentious. I just wanted to comment that I silently chuckle to myself when people say they are going to read my wordless comic. It just amuses me.

Also, just in case you are curious, here is a look at where I work on my comics. I haven’t really wanted to invest any money into it, since I was already pouring so much sweat equity into it. So I use sub-par materials, and then utilizing the magic of the clone-stamp tool, and the auto correction tools in Photoshop, I make it look like I have some idea what I am doing…  Which I don’t.   the only art class I have taken was in 8th grade, and while I learned a lot in that class, I am still mostly self-taught, so if you have any suggestions, comments, or criticisms about my comic, r the rest of my blog just post away!

This is where all the comicing happens! Exciting, I know! I only use the finest bulk pencils, off brand printer paper, and discount Sharpies for my work!

Also Canberry-Grape juice is amazing; it is really good to drink while working. I learned this because I found out I can't drink my favorite beverage, coffee, while inking. My hand just shakes too much. :(

Lastly, I thought I would share with you my further attempt at making a good omelet. I have the combinations of vegetables, cheeses and spices down… I just can’t figure out a technique to cook it using the dishes I have available. Anyone know how to make omelets in a skillet? I can tell you in the oven is not the way! (At least I haven’t found a proper in oven method yet… *plots*)

I failed yet again at making the omelet come out right, so I threw some toast in it and it was amazing.

I almost caught my oven mit on fire because of the broiler. (Don't ask why I was broiling an omelet. It was an experiment...)

Well, that is all for now. Talk to you again soon!

It’s Getting There

by Ian on May.31, 2009, under Announcements, Comics

You may or may not have noticed the comic link up at the top of the page.  I started an online comic based on a game I am working on a couple weeks ago. So far I only have 2 pages up, but I should have the third up on Monday.  It is a little unusual; it has no words in it at all. No dialog. No sound effects. No text.  This makes it quite a challenge to write, albeit a fun one.  I feel that comics are a primarily visual medium, and I want to see how much I can convey purely through images.  I want the “reader” to imagine his or her own dialog and sound effects.  Hopefully it goes well, right now it is too early to tell.

While I primarily want to create an entertaining, humorous comic, I have some auxiliary goals with this comic as well, including:

  • Enhance my technical skills: perspective, pacing, shading, inking, etc.
  • Become a better story teller.
  • Be able to draw consistently on a schedule.

Hopefully you enjoy You Just Lost The Comic.  I am having a lot of fun making it. :) Also, I am still on track to get my semi-serious Sci-fi comic up by mid-August, so get ready for that. lol
